MacTeX-2012 (for Mac OS 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8)

This package installs TeX Live, the complete reference edition of TeX. TeX Live runs on both PowerPC and Intel machines, and supports TeX, LaTeX, pdfTeX, pdfLaTeX, AMSTeX, ConTeXt, XeTeX, XeLaTeX, LuaTeX, LuaLaTeX, and every commonly used package in the TeX world. The install package also installs several GUI utilities for TeX, so it is not necessary to obtain a front end separately. Everything is completely configured and ready to use once the installer finishes its job.

Another TeX Distribution installed?

If you already have another TeX distribution (like MacTeX-2011), it is not necessary to remove that distribution before installing MacTeX-2012. The old distribution will remain after installation and you can easily switch back to it if you discover a flaw in TeX Live 2012. A "TeX Distribution Preference Pane" has been added to Apple's System Preferences; this pane lists installed TeX distributions and allows you to select the active distribution by clicking a radio button in the pane. This click automatically reconfigures all TeX GUI applications, and automatically reconfigures the PATH and MANPATH variables. See the documentation on Multiple TeX Distributions below for details.
