If you have questions or encounter any problems with membership registration, please contact the TUG office.
Join or renew online (recommended): Submit the secure online form. You can pay with a credit card, debit card, or via PayPal.
Paper mail: If you wish to pay by check or money order or otherwise prefer it, you can alternatively print the membership form (letter-size PDF, A4 PDF) and follow the instructions there for mailing.
Joint membership: The DANTE e.V. (German), DK-TUG (Danish), NTG (Dutch), and UK-TUG (United Kingdom) TeX user groups have mutual agreements with TUG whereby you can receive a discount for joining both user groups. To do this, please join via the DANTE membership page, DK-TUG membership page, NTG membership page, or the UKTUG membership page, respectively, and select the option for joint membership. (We welcome making joint membership arrangements with other user groups; contact us if you are interested.)
All amounts are in US dollars (approximate currency conversions). The rates are unchanged from 2007, but the early bird deadline is now March 31.
Tax deduction: membership dues less value of benefits received are generally tax-deductible, at least in the USA. We have calculated the actual value of benefits to be $35 for 2008. For example, $40 of the $75 membership dues is tax-deductible in the US. Alternatively, the entire dues may be deductible as an employee or small business expense, depending on your situation. More info.
Electronic membership discount: you can choose to omit delivery of the physical TUGboat and software benefits; they are available electronically. Since this saves TUG some expense, we pass on that savings as a discount on the membership fee.
Automatic renewals: you can choose to automatically renew your TUG membership in future years, thus saving TUG some overhead and you some time. Please consider choosing this option on the membership form. Of course you can cancel the autorenewal at any time by contacting the TUG office.
Joining TUG helps to support and promote the use of TeX, LaTeX, ConTeXt, Metafont, MetaPost, and related systems worldwide.
Major tangible benefits include TUGboat and the TeX Collection software, described further below. In addition, TUG members vote in TUG elections, and receive discounts on meeting fees, store purchases (including Lucida fonts), software licenses, etc. More info.
If you'd like to support TUG without becoming a member, making a donation is always very welcome. Also, anyone can order software, older issues of TUGboat, and TeX memorabilia through the TUG store (members get a discount).
All members receive the TUGboat journal, a benefit unique to joining TUG. It is currently published three times a year and distributed to all TUG members for that year. Each issue is also made available to TUG members electronically, approximately a year in advance of general availability.
We send the last-published copy of TUGboat to all new members, even if it was for a prior year. Thus, when you join as a new member, you'll get the most recent issue right away.
The TUGboat staff welcomes your input: for article proposals, ad placements, or any comments/suggestions, please see the TUGboat web pages.
All members receive the TeX software collection. The exact contents and availability of the software vary, as it is produced entirely by volunteers.
The next software release, TeX Collection 2008, is tentatively planned to be released in mid-2008. It will be shipped on DVD to all 2008 members, and members can optionally choose to receive CD's. We expect TeX Collection 2008 to include:
