question about latex fonts

Can you direct me to a newsgroup or some other source of basic information
about installing a font: adobe/janson?

I have the files from CTAN and have placed them in what I believe to be
the appropriate dirs in a tex/latex installation on RedHat6.1 linux.

	tfm files -> /usr/share/texmf/fonts/tfm/adobe/janson

	vf file -> /usr/share/texmf/fonts/vf/adobe/janson

	fd files and janson.sty -> /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/psfonts

	copied the pjn.map to the psfonts.map

The most vivid problem is when I run latex it says it can't find
janson.sty, so I provide the full path and it continues on. I then run
dvips. However, it is clear the font is not working (no bold, and I think
it is defaulting to Times Roman -- it's hard to tell, as the two fonts are
very similar).

If you can help me, or point me in the right direction, I would be VERY,
VERY appreciative!

thanks very much,

   Paul
