just in case...

you have in fontinst a switch that only takes into account `sensitive
pairs', here is what i used with minion:
%\setint{capspacing}{0}
%\setint{smallcapspacing}{0}
\setint{minimumkern}{5}

(this means that any pair under 5 is ignored) at text size, this
downsized the number of kern pairs enough for minion. 

in any case, fontinst does handle the job, but you could need to
recompile virtex.. Also vftovp will need to be enlarged to deal with
all these LIG/Kerns entries... life is hard.
