tex-fonts list archives and administration issues

The tex-fonts mailing list is maintained by Nelson H. F. Beebe at
math.utah.edu; requests for list addition or deletion should be mailed
to

	tex-fonts-request@math.utah.edu

so as to reach administration staff, rather than the whole list.

The tex-fonts list is unmoderated, so postings are forwarded
immediately to the entire membership (28 addresses as of 1-Sep-1993).

Archives of the tex-fonts list postings are maintained on
ftp.math.utah.edu in the anonymous ftp directory pub/tex/mail in these
files:

-rw-rw-r-- 1 daemon 80952 Sep 1 03:55 tex-fonts.txt
-rw-rw-r-- 1 beebe 389318 Jul 11 1991 tex-fonts_910701.txt
-rw-rw-r-- 1 beebe 82635 Nov 18 1991 tex-fonts_910816.txt
-rw-rw-r-- 1 beebe 52704 Nov 18 1991 tex-fonts_911101.txt
-rw-rw-r-- 1 beebe 91265 Feb 27 1992 tex-fonts_920131.txt
-rw-rw-r-- 1 beebe 36620 Jun 19 1992 tex-fonts_920601.txt

All mail sent to tex-fonts@math.utah.edu is automatically copied to
the tex-fonts.txt file in pub/tex/mail as it is transferred, so you
should always be able to find up-to-date archives there. The mailing
list and archive directory are on the same machine, so correspondence
should never be lost; if the machine is down, mail and ftp are too.

The mail file is stored in UNIX mbox format, which means that messages
are simply appended to the file with headers intact, and no
intervening separator lines to allow identification of the start of a
message (like those provided by TOPS-20 mm and UNIX mm /txt format).
Consequently, message bodies are munged to change initial "From " to
">From " (yucch!! there are 20 such changes in the above files, with
unpleasant results if the contents get typeset without zapping the >
chars).

Periodically, the contents of mail .txt files are moved to a file
originalbasename_yymmdd.txt, where yymmdd marks the date of the LAST
posting to the file. An alphabetical sort of file names is then also
a chronological sort.

If you lack Internet anonymous ftp access, you can retrieve the
archives by e-mail; send a message to tuglib@math.utah.edu with the
text

	help
	send index from tex/mail

to get started, or

	send tex-fonts.txt from tex/mail

to get a particular file.
