the origin of the paper area is in the upper left 1 inch from the top and 1 inch from the left (historical reason)! But only when all margins are set to zero.
\oddsidemargin0pt
\topmargin=0pt
\topskip=0pt
\headheight=0pt
\headsep=0pt
\parindent=0pt
Otherwise the origin is shifted to the right and down depending to the margin values. The package pst-abspos allows to set the origin in several postions of the paper plane.

Relative to the origin one can use the \pstPutAbs command to place text or objects. Run the source or look at the PDF. This examples sets the origin into the upper left TeX corner.
